Boy (noun) a noise with dirt on it

This client is a dear friend & former client of mine from waaaay back in my wedding planning business days. So when she told me she needed help with her son’s 5th birthday party, I was all over it!!

I asked her if she had thought of a theme yet & she tells me how much her son loves his dirt bike & then says almost hesitantly “I guess a dirt bike theme?”

PAUSE

So you wanna know my favorite thing about design? When someone brings me a super out of the box idea, when what they want is something I’ve never really seen done before, when they have an idea they like but they’re not sure how to make it “cute” or “pretty” or “stylish”. That’s legit my FAVORITE thing!!

So 1. I’ve never seen a cute dirt bike themed party before (and maybe you have & I’m just sheltered in a world of sports & superhero birthday themes) and 2. her slight hesitancy made me think “she knows he would love to have this type of party but she isn’t quite sure how to make it look good”

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

The design concept launched with the dirt bike theme, and the birthday boy’s favorite color – Blue!! Below is the inspiration board from the original design plan. Initially we planned to do varying shades of blue, black & white.

However after the clients reviewed the plan, they wanted a pop of bright green. I loved the idea!! That bright green really popped against the shades of blue.

Part of the design plan included some balloon decor in various styles. This is where Balloon Frenz comes in!! My client actually introduced me to this talented (and well priced!!) business. I sent over photos of what we were thinking, the color palette, particular balloons we wanted & they ran with it.

The decor you’ll see pictured came from everywhere: Walmart, Michaels, Oriental Trading, Etsy, Party City, Amazon, and Dollar General. A little bit of this, a little bit of that.

I love when decor does double duty. So the inflatable tires pictured above were actually party favors!!

And another thing I always strive to do, is personalize…so we had to throw in a photo of the birthday boy on his beloved dirt bike.

I finished setting up just as guests started to arrive, and I was able to catch that moment…as friends walked through the door – big smiles & warm greetings, kids giddy with excitement. The once quiet room fills with happy voices, kids laughter, and so SO much love. It’s happening. That moment that makes it all worth it. It’s finally here.
